[Feb 10] MIA EC Updates

Job Posting

The MIA EC has initiated a process of assessing all the personnel requirements necessary for MIA’s effective functionality. On the volunteer front, the EC has received great responses from members of our community and accordingly has established more than 10 fully functional committees with total number of more than 60 volunteers. Included in these committees are: Takaful, Finance and audit, Fundraising, Events, Constitution review, Scholarship, IT, Library, Maintenance etc. On February the 5th an orientation session was held for all MIA volunteers.

Despite this great volunteer force, the MIA EC still sees the need to have dedicated full time staff to serve the community better. The EC is currently formulating budgets and assessing funding options to determine adequate numbers and levels of staffing. Of immediate need is a full time Office Administrator. Accordingly, the EC has decided to make this a full time permanent position. In accordance to MIA’s new HR policy, all paid positions in MIA (temporary or permanent) have to be posted publicly and candidates be selected through a proper process of interview and merit. Please find below the job posting announcement for the position of Office Administrator. We encourage all interested to apply.

Quran and Islamic Studies

Making our mosques vibrant with educational and dawa programs is a priority for our EC. We welcome and encourage initiatives taken in that regard. Recently, a regular short reminder program has been initiated every Saturday after Isha in Waverley mosque. As well, beginning Thursday February 16 an additional Quran class for children will begin at Waverley, under the supervision of Sheikh Atef. Sheikh Atef memorizes the Quran and has long experience in dawa work. If there is enough interest in the St. Vital area, another Quran class in the Hazelwood mosque for children can also be initiated. If you are interested or need more info, please contact community services VP at: abdul.aziz@miaonline.org

Sports Activities

Friday night sports at Waverly are now better supervised and monitored by designated senior youth. As well, under the supervision of Br. Mamoon Rashid, a new basketball and badminton program has been initiated. For more details please visit MIA website or contact Br. Mamoon at:  vets_lhr@yahoo.com
