Dear Leaders : Peace be with you

We the undersigned leaders of the Manitoba Muslim Community stand in solidarity with the Aboriginals, Metis and First Nations peoples of Canada. We  humbly offer prayers that  survivors and their families will find healing and solace.

We urge the Canadian government to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Report and honour its apology through concrete actions. Please note that this difficult process of re-living the pain on part of the survivors and listening to their stories of suffering and their torturous treatment as children has shaken us to the core.

We commend Justice Sinclair and his fellow commissioners for their dignified, compassionate and diligent struggle through this difficult process.

Our community painfully acknowledges the cultural genocide inflicted on First Nations families and communities in Canada and we offer our deepest apology to First Nations brothers and sisters. We fully agree with the TRC statement that we “all inherit both the benefits and obligations of Canada. We are all Treaty people who share responsibility for taking action on reconciliation.”

May the Merciful Creator to help and guide all Canadians towards the path of justice, peace and meaningful reconciliation.

Sincerely,
