MIA Welcomes New Staff!

We welcome Imam Muhuiddin Omar, who will be leading prayer at the Hazelwood Mosque. Imam Muhuiddin hails from Somalia, and received his religious education in Al Azhar in Egypt. He is hafiz of the Quran and is pursuing a degree in social work from the University of Manitoba. He will be leading Fajr, Maghrib and Isha prayers in the Hazelwood mosque and supporting the other religious functions of the MIA.
We also welcome sr. Tasneem Vali as our office manager. Sr. Tasneem grew up in Dubai. She has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy. She has many years of experience as a project manager in Detroit and Chicago. She lived in Karachi, Pakistan for 10 years and recently relocated to Winnipeg with her husband and children.
We also welcome sr. Taj Shakir-Farooqui as the new principal of the MIA Al Noor Saturday school. Taj graduated with a B.A honors from University of Toronto in 2008, majoring in Political Science, and minoring in English Literature and Religious Studies. She received her B.Ed from Brock University in 2009 specializing in English, ESL and Special Education. She has been working in the education field for over 5 years and loves interacting with children. In addition, she has also worked in a leadership role at CIBC for 6 years. In her downtime, Taj loves to paint and bake cookies. Recently she entered motherhood and is loving every minute of it.
