[April 20th] MIA EC Updates

Khuttba feedback page:

A khuttba feedback page has been added to the MIA website. You can now give your feedbacks directly to the khateeb, anonymously, if you wish. Copy of the feedback will also go to MIA EC and khuttba committee. The purpose of this feedback medium is to give constructive feedbacks to all khateebs in order to make the quality of the khuttba better and more meaningful.
We kindly ask you to use this medium responsibly and cordially. Along with the feedback page you will find the khuttba schedule for both MIA mosques as well as khateeb guidelines.

[May 26th] MIA Fundraising dinner:

The MIA fundraising committee is organizing a major fundraising event for MIA on May the 26th. Guest speaker Shiekh Muneer Al-Qasim is invited to the event. Details of the event will follow soon.

The MIA total revenues have seen a steep decline over the last two years (close to 40% decline -$270,000 down-) leading to a net loss in the 2011 fiscal year and significant decline in cash reserves (please refer to MIA financial reports posted on MIA website).
Putting MIA finances back on track is critical for the functionality of MIA and it is a priority of great significance. We encourage all community members to buy tickets for this event and donate generously. As well we ask you all to make monthly pledges by completing the attached monthly pledge forms.

Volunteers and Qaris:

MIA is in constant need of volunteers. Many of the future planned activities and initiatives require solid volunteer base. We are creating a volunteer data base. If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail us with your area of interest, expertise, your contact and a short bio.

The IT committee is specifically in need of volunteers with expertise in programming (HTML, PHP, javascript, SQL (mySQL).

As well, if you fully or mostly memorize Quran with good knowledge of tajweed rules, please e-mail us your information and your availability. We will consider you for leading Tarweeh prayers in any of the mosques in the city or other similar engagement.

The MIA EC would like to extend it congratulations to the newly elected University of Manitoba Muslim Student Association (MSA-U) Executive Council, under the leadership of Br. Mohamed Abdul-Raouf. MSA-U provides vital services to Muslim students at the university, we value its great contributions and we are committed to working together with the new Executive to serve the student population in the best manner.

The EC would also like to congratulate Sr. Bilan Arte for being elected as President of the University of Manitoba Student Union (UMSU).

As well we would like to congratulate Br. Samir Hassan for being elected as President of the Faculty of Law Student Association. We wish them all the best.

The MIA EC would like to thank the sisters who organized the bake sale on Friday April 06 at the Waverley Grand mosque. The bake sale was very successful and all proceeds were donated for MIA operations.
