Dear Community Members, Assalamu Alaikum.

Wednesday July 22  is the 1st day of the Islamic sacred month of Dhul Hijjah.

Accordingly, the Day of Arafah will be on Thursday July 30, and the first day of Eid Al-Adha will be on Friday July 31, insha Allah. We wish everyone a blessed ten days of Dhul Hijjah and Eid Mubarak.

This Eid comes under exceptional circumstances. As a community we are still unable to congregate in large numbers due to COVID19 restrictions. We ask you all to continue to comply with guidelines on physical distancing and restrictions on gathering in large numbers.

Eid Prayer Arrangements

We have made arrangements for multiple Eid prayers at two locations this year, for a limited number of people. Our ability to organize these Eid prayers depends on your cooperation, support and compliance with physical distancing requirements and restrictions on numbers.

Eid prayer will be held at 8:30 AM and 10 AM outside the Waverley Grand Mosque.
Eid prayer will be held at 8:30 AM and 10 AM at Central Park across from MIA Connections at 406 Edmonton.

We have limited spots in all of these Eid events. You have to have a ticket to participate. Please do not acquire a spot if you are not feeling well. Do not bring children under 12. We also strongly discourage seniors from attending. We encourage community members to follow the Eid prayer livestream and pray Eid at home.

Tickets for Eid prayers will be released online according to the following schedule:

Sunday July 26, at 12 PM
Monday July 27, at 12 PM
Tuesday July 28, at 12 PM

Also, to be inclusive of  segments of the community who may not be able to get tickets online, a limited number of tickets will be available at the MIA office on Wednesday July 29 between 12 pm and 2 pm.

We have severe limitations on the number of people who can be accommodated for Eid prayers. Allah will reward all of those who are patient and choose to stay home and pray with their families, insha Allah. No access to the Eid prayer will be given to those who “show up” without tickets.

Also, while we will strive to follow provincial guidelines for outdoor events, by attending Eid prayer you accept the fact that you are choosing to attend a public event that carries with it a measure of risk of exposure to COVID19.

In the case of rain or inclement weather,  or a change in provincial guidelines, all of these outdoor Eid prayers will be canceled and Eid prayer will be streamed live from the Grand mosque with only staff attending.

Day of Arafah Iftaar

Insha Allah on Thursday July 30, we will have a community Iftaar at Central Park and at the Grand Mosque, outdoors, weather permitting.

Pre-packaged Iftaars will also be available to purchase online. You are welcome to take the Iftaar home or join the community in having a picnic outside and then pray Maghrib together, with physical distancing. Bring your payer mat and bug spray!

Eid Fireworks

We want to insha Allah still experience the joy of Eid. While Eid Carnival is canceled for this year, we have a drive-in fireworks show! Join us on Sunday August 2 for the annual Eid fireworks show, from the comfort of your car, at the Grand Mosque. Cars will be allowed in at 10 PM and the show will take place at 10:45 PM.

All of these activities strain our budget, as the MIA revenue from Friday donations and facility booking are severely diminished. Please make a donation to help us cover the costs of these activities.

If you are a business and would like to sponsor the Eid Fireworks, please contact the MIA office at 204-256-1347.

Jazakum Allah Khairan. May God reward and protect us all. Ameen.
