Join a Committee!

Allah says in the Quran: “Help each other in righteousness and piety, and do not help each other in sin and aggression” [5:2].

MIA is excited to invite members of the community to join various committees. We especially encourage youth to seek volunteer opportunities in MIA in all areas of the organization.

We have many committees to choose from. We strive to issue periodic public calls to join committees.

Committee member responsibilities
Committee members give of their most valuable asset, their time. They attend committee meetings, contribute ideas, and carry out tasks to fulfill the committee’s role.

Committee chairs responsibilities
Each committee will have a chair or co-chairs. The board of directors appoints chairs and works with them to select committee volunteers. Chairs serve for one year, which can be renewed. Chairs call regular committee meetings, ensure that committee meetings are recorded in minutes, and report on the committee’s work to the board of directors.

Online fundraising (supports MIA's fundraising by tapping into online fundraising opportunities)
Security (this is a new committee intended to review the security of the masjids and implement a security plan)
Outreach (volunteers who speak about Islam and Muslims at schools, churches and mosque guests)
Converts support (provide emotional and social support to new converts to the faith)
Facility maintenance (support the facility staff in building maintenance)
Information technology (support the development of IT infrastructure for MIA facilities)
Winnipeg Harvest food drive (annual summer food drive to collect food for the needy)
