A community elder and long-time resident of Winnipeg. He has volunteered for giving regular jummah khutba, leading the Eid prayer in the late 1980s to early 1990s when there was no Imam nor enough Khateebs in the city. His Khutbas were informative, inspiring, easy to understand and unifying.

Long time Winnipeg resident and certified accountant by profession. He served as MIA treasurer on the MIA Executive Council, and served as the first Chair of the Internal Audit Committee established in 2012. For years Br. He was instrumental in formulating internal accounting policies and procedures for MIA. He has always been a reliable and dependable source of expertise and professional advice.

Br. Khaled Al-Nahar

Br. Khalid served as MIA treasurer for an Executive term for two terms. For years he has served as chair of the Takaful Fund Committee. He has been instrumental in keeping the Takaful working efficiently and attending to the hundreds of requests for help received by MIA. The Takaful Fund provides a vital service and Br. Khaled’s leadership was of great value.

Yasmin also chairs the Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute (CMWI) and provides vital service to new women immigrants, including food distribution and vocational training.

Dr. Sabiha Haseeb

Sr. Sabiha has served as an MIA Executive Council member for many years. Sr. Sabiha, alongside her late husband Br. Haseeb, played a pivotal role in collecting funds for the completion of the Grand Mosque. She chaired a committee of sisters that for years continued to raise funds through bake sales, fundraising, penny drive, brick sale, etc. Sabiha and her team’s efforts provided a key source of revenue in generating funds for the Grand Mosque.

Food catering:

Eid dinner food was delicious. It was catered by Shawarma Khan.

Teachers for Quran classes

The MIA Al-Fajr Quran Institute, is seeking volunteer teachers to meet the growing needs of the students enrolled in Sunday Quran class. Renovation update of the Hazelwood Mosque

A new pathway has been opened at the Hazelwood Mosque through the back entrance of the sisters. This path will make it easy for the sisters to access the back entrance from Hazelwood Avenue. As well, the stairs has been temporarily repaid to be finished next summer. Further, new grass sod has been put on the Hazelwood side of the lawn.
