The nominations process for the MIA Board of Directors General Elections closed by the end of Monday, November 6th, 2023.

All nomination forms were reviewed by the Election and Compliance Commission (ECC), as per MIA Constitution – Article VI, Section 3 and associated By-Laws and Procedures.  The ECC have received a total of seven (7) nomination forms covering all vacant board positions. We received the following 7 nominations.

  1. Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal (3-year term)
  2. Abdelhady (Hady) Elnagar (3-year term)
  3. Hakim Ghulam (3-year term)
  4. Mohamed Mady (3-year term)
  5. Tajudeen Bello (term not indicated on the form)
  6. Wayne Omer (1-year term)
  7. Khawja Latif (1-year term)

Unfortunately, two of the above nominations did not qualify. Br. Mady nomination did not qualify because the seconder on the application was not a member of MIA for 2023. Br. Bello did not complete the application nor submitted any MIA volunteer experience. The following remaining five candidates satisfied the eligibility criteria.

  1. Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal (3-year term)
  2. Abdelhady (Hady) Elnagar (3-year term)
  3. Hakim Ghulam (3-year term)
  4. Wayne Omer (1-year term)
  5. Khawja Latif (1-year term)

Since there are three candidates for 3-year term and two candidates for 1-year term, the ECC declares that all the candidates listed above are elected to the Board of Directors by acclamation. Their 3-year terms start January 1st, 2024.  As a result, no voting will be held this year.

The ECC congratulates the new members of the Board of Directors for stepping forward to serve our community. The ECC also invites all MIA members to support and continue working along with the Board of Directors for a better and stronger MIA. May Allah (SWT) bless our community.
