[Feb 21] EC Update

MIA Cafe

Members of the Muslim community attending Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque can now enjoy tea, coffee, snacks and other refreshments at the “MIA Cafe”. This is a new volunteer-run pilot project. All proceeds will go to support the masjid.

MIA Volunteers Breakfast

A group of MIA volunteers attended  a breakfast meeting organized by the MIA executive council on Saturday February 15 at the Historic Hazelwood Mosque. The purpose of the meeting was to thank the volunteers for their efforts and to provide a forum for discussion and feedback. Insha Allah another volunteer forum will be organized in the Spring. If you would like to volunteer with the MIA or if you are already a volunteer and would like to receive future invitations, email us at  office@miaonline.org .

Make Poverty History!

The Manitoba Islamic Association supports the campaign to Make Poverty History Manitoba! (MPHM). The MIA supports the campaign’s efforts to increase employment and income assistance (EIA) rates in Manitoba. This is in line with the Islamic philosophy of Zakat, which aims to not just assist the poor and those in need, but to also help them achieve self sufficiency.

The Friday sermons on February 21st will insha Allah be dedicated to the topic of alleviation of poverty and the congregation will be asked to sign a petition supporting the MPHM’s campaign to increase EIA rates. The petition can also be signed online.

Members of the Muslim community are also encouraged to join other MPHM supporters at the Manitoba Legislative building to participate in a lunch-time rally on Wednesday March 5 at 12 PM.
