Dear Community Members,

Your MIA has recently secured a generous grant of $133,000 from the provincial government’s Building Sustainable Communities program to renovate, expand, and restore the Pioneer Mosque at 247 Hazelwood Avenue.

We are seeking $133,000 in matching funds to ensure the successful completion of this significant renovation project. We ask community members to give generously.

The Pioneer Mosque was the first masjid established in Manitoba. It functioned as the cornerstone of our community for nearly three decades after its opening in 1976 and continues to serve as a place of worship, education, and cultural exchange.

Recognizing its historical value, the MIA has undertaken the ambitious endeavour to preserve the mosque’s legacy and enhance its facilities to better meet our community’s needs.

The provincial grant, awarded to your MIA through a competitive process, is a testament to the significance of this project and the dedication of your MIA to safeguard our heritage. The funds will be used to address critical renovation needs, including structural repairs, accessibility improvements, and the restoration of significant architectural elements.

Your support is vital to the success of this renovation project. Please remember how the Prophet himself, ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-salām, rebuilt a masjid established by his ancestors—the sacred Kaʿba that Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl built in Mecca. Let’s follow his sunna in our own times!

More information about the renovations and Community consultation will be shared shortly.
